GINSI: ANWAR SUPRIJADI FAILED AS CUSTOMS` DIRECTOR GENERAL

Jakarta, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - Association of Indonesian National Importers (GINSI) considered Anwar Suprijadi has failed as Director General of Customs and Excise for not able to process imported goods documents briefly that cause importers to pay in large amount fine.

"I think Anwar Suprijadi has failed for not considering the importers' importance," Amirudin Saud, GINSI's general chairman said here Friday.

Amirudin exemplified if a container arrives in Tanjung Priok port and is not taken over by the importer after the sixth day then it will be subjected US$ 20 fine per day.

"Just imagine the total lost suffered by the importers if a number of 3.9 million containers coming in every year," Amirudin, who has been GINSI leader for the last 20 years, said.

According to him, the importations could stay under restraint until two weeks due to slow examination procedures by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise's officers.

"As Director General of Customs and Excise, he should fully understand technical aspects of custom duties," he said.

When asked about the cause, the chairman referred to sudden inspection performed by Corruption Eradication Comission (KPK) officials few months ago who found hundreds of million rupiah alleged as bribery to customs officers for processing the importers' goods immediately.

As a consequence the officers are now afraid to process the documents promptly for being accused to accept bribery from the importers.

"Many of GINSI members have reported the slow documents processing that I will report this matter to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise head office on Monday (October 13)," Amirudin said.

He also mentioned the obscurity of determining the admission charge by the customs office which actually according to the rules was based on the contract value and fund transfer.
