KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- An investment promotion mission led by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) chief executive officer Noharuddin Nordin is currently in the United States of America. The mission, held in conjunction with the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, includes representatives of the state governments of Terengganu, Melaka, Johor and Kedah state as well as the regional economic corridors. "An investment promotion seminar is being held on Wednesday in St. Louis, Missouri, and the delegation will then proceed to Phoenix, Arizona, where an investment seminar will also be organised on May 4. "The mission, in addition to providing an update on the recent economic developments in Malaysia, highlights the investment opportunities in the high-tech, value-added and knowledge-based industries with a special focus on the opportunities in the oil and gas and the aerospace eco-systems," MIDA said in a statement. It added that more than 130 participants mainly from the oil & gas equipment, chemicals and the services sector related to oil and gas attended the seminar in Houston. Some of the major companies represented include FMC Technologies, Halliburton, Baker Hughes and Cameron. "More than 200 business meetings were held between the Malaysian delegation members and their counterparts. "Some of the investment projects that were discussed include bioethanol, manufacture of glass, petrochemicals, oil and gas production equipment, oil field metal and chemical supplies, and oil and gas services including standard and certification services. "Some of the Malaysian companies that attended the seminar also had the opportunity to discuss agency arrangements with leading oil and gas players to secure technical support, which augurs well for the development of the oil and gas ecosystem in Malaysia," MIDA said. MIDA is an agency of the Malaysian government. -- BERNAMA
