By Nurhafizah Marzuki
SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), May 4 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi MARA
(MARA University of Technology - UiTM) is keen to continue cooperation with
German universities and companies to churn out more engineers and extensive
research in green technology.
UiTM Vice-Chancellor Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar said green technology that
ensured sustainable development and that conserved the environment would become
important to a developing country such as Malaysia.
Hence, he said Germany is important to UiTM considering its achievements in
science and technological innovations as well as in green technology field.
"I believe that students and faculty staff will benefit from such
collaborations covering ventures such as future internship programmes, joint
research projects and industry partnerships," he told Bernama after attending
German Day 2012 at UiTM here, Thursday.
The event encompassed a wide range of activities including business, science
and technology, German movies, German language, presentation on education
opportunities in Germany and industry fair comprising leading German companies.
Some 14 German-based companies such as BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd,
Bayer Co (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd, Goethe-Institut Kuala Lumpur,
OSRAM (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Volkswagen Group Malaysia
participated in the event.
"The programme focuses on green technology and gives the opportunity to
participating German companies to showcase their enviromentally friendly
products and services to a wider Malaysian public," Sahol Hamid said.
Some 80 per cent of the industries in Germany are now using green
technology, he added.
"I believe Malaysia will be able to achieve this in 10 years' time as it has
a large pool of smart people who, with proper training and guidance, can help
make this possible," he said.
