International Experts To Share Views On Rare Earth On May 7

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) -- Four international experts will present papers covering a broad spectrum of the rare earth processing industry at the International Symposium on Rare Earth here on May 7. The inaugural symposium, themed 'Rare Earth Industries: Moving Malaysia's Green Economy Forward' and to be held at Renaissance Kuala Lumpur, aims at disseminating factual information on rare earth processing and refining as well as exposing potential down-stream business opportunities. According to a statement by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia here, among the presenters was Jack Lifton, the international consultant who coined the term 'technology metals'. Lifton who was educated as a physical chemist specialising in high temperature metallurgy will deliver a keynote address on rare earth demand and supply between now and in the next 30 years. The statement said other paper presenters include the executive vice president of Dacha Strategic Metals Professor Chun-Hua Yan, and the head of analytical laboratories - safety management department of Karlsruhr Institute of Technology, Christoph Wilhem. The sole speaker from Malaysia is Dr Mohd Abdul Wahab Yusof, an expert in waste technology. At the day-long symposium, there would also be a panel discussion, which would allow participants to engage face-to-face with the experts where they could gain valuable information on the safety, health and environmental impact of the rare earth industry, it said. -- BERNAMA
