Malaysia Open GP Win Has Restored My Confidence - World Number One Player Chong Wei

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), May 7 (Bernama) -- Lee Chong Wei says his win at Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships here has restored his confidence for other tournaments. Chong Wei who beat Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the final in three sets, 17-21, 21-8, 21-10, is happy with the win after grappling with a shoulder injury. "I'm very happy as the win has restored my confidence after losing at India Open Badminton Championships," he said told reporters after tournament here Sunday. At India Open Badminton Championships, world number one player Chong Wei surprisingly lost to fast rising Shon Wan Ho of South Korea in the final. It was Chong Wei's first major tournament after suffering a shoulder injury during the All England Championships last month. On the match against Sony in the final at Bandaraya Stadium today, Chong Wei admitted that he made many unforced errors in the first set. "At first, I had a little phobia but overcame it and played a smashing game in the second set. "I feel a little pain but its alright. What's important is that I dared to attack and this has lifted my spirit." Chong Wei said he will continue treatment before joining Malaysia's Thomas Cup squad for training in Dongguan, China from May 13-18. He said although the Thomas Cup squad is considered not that strong, he believe that the players will provide stiff competition to opposing teams. The Thomas Cup tournament will be held in Wuhan, China from May 20-27. --BERNAMA
