JICA, IBFIM To Conduct Islamic Banking, Finance Training For Palestinians

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) will conduct an Islamic Banking and Finance Training for Palestinians. IBFIM Chief Executive Officer Dr Adnan Alias said 23 Palestinians from various ministries and agencies will be attending the two-week training here. "At the end of the course, participants will be awarded a certified qualification in Islamic Finance by the institute. "Besides training, we also provide other services if the Palestinians wanted our services in consultancy to develop institutions or even regulatory framework in Islamic finance," he told reporters. Meanwhile, JICA Chief Representative Sato Kunihiko said this Japan-Malaysia collaboration was the first significant programme to help the Palestinians' nation-building efforts to establish a viable Palestinian state. "This is the first time JICA has partnered with Malaysia in the Islamic Finance field. "This programme is a complementary role we can play in helping the Palestinians as Malaysia has a strong background and knowledge in Islamic Finance while Japan has vast experience in international cooperation. "Through this collaboration, Japan can venture and get into the network of the Islamic Finance sector," he added. -- BERNAMA
