Pakistan Navy's PNS AZMAT Arrives In Kuantan Port

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- PNS AZMAT, the Pakistan Navy's fast attack missile ship, will be in Kuantan from Wednesday until Saturday as part of efforts to further strengthen the existing fraternal relations between Pakistan and Malaysia. The visit was also in line with a great maritime tradition, said the Defence Advisor to Pakistan in Malaysia, Commodore Zahid Akram, who added that the craft was on her maiden voyage to Pakistan after it was built in China recently. He said in a statement that PNS AZMAT, the first of the AZAMAT class of vessels, was fitted with state of the art weapons and sensors to counter challenges faced at sea. Masood Khalid, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Malaysia, said the visit of PNS AZMAT to Malaysia would further strengthen the brotherly ties between Pakistan and Malaysia and would open the doors for continued cooperation between their navies. He said the two countries also had a long history of cooperation at all levels and their brotherly ties would continue to flourish. In addressing the challenges of today’s maritime environment, Masood said constructive engagement was indispensable to counter individual and collective challenges. Constructive engagement by regional and extra regional navies enabled the sharing of operational and doctrinal expertise, generation of interoperability and enhancement of Maritime Domain Awareness (anything associated with the maritime domain that could impact the security, safety, economy, or environment), he added. -- BERNAMA
