Google M'sia Upbeat To See Higher Adoption Rate Via Localised Chrome Web Store

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Google Malaysia, which launched the Chrome Web Store in Malaysia Wednesday, is upbeat to see higher rate web browser adoption via more localised web store. The Chrome Web Store is an open market place that gives users an easy place to browse, discover and purchase the best applications on the web. It also gives developers a dedicated platform to showcase their web applications. Country Manager Sajith Sivanandan said Chrome users would now find it much easier to discover and add on new applications, extensions and themes to their web browser across a variety of categories. "As more developers come on board, we expect to see applications from local publishers, content creators and companies. "We want to have as many Malaysian developers as we can and also like to see higher adoption rate," he told reporters after the launch. According to GS Statcounter, Chrome is used by 44 per cent desktop Internet users in Malaysia. Sajith said the six launch partners today -- AirAsia, Berita Teknologi Amanz, Malaysiakini.com, Maybank, The Malaysian Insider and The Star -- are available in the web store. "Of course, there are Angry Birds, Battle Stations, popular file storage app Box, photo-editing tools like Pixlr and Google Docs Suite," he said. For Malaysian web developers, the Chrome Web Store launch means they will be able to easily build and distribute their applications to more than 200 million Chrome users worldwide. To try out the new applications, one need to download Google Chrome and visit the Chrome Web Store. -- BERNAMA
