Jimmy Choo Shares Experience With Participants At Textile Seminar

SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), May 16 (Bernama) -- Fashion icon, Professor Dr Jimmy Choo, on Wednesday shared his experience in the industry with participants of the 88th Textile Institute International Seminar, comprising experts and academicians in the field from all over the world. Choo, who is also the tourism ambassador for Malaysia, shared his experience with the participants when interviewed by the host of the event at the opening of the seminar. The seminar is jointly organised by Universiti Teknologi MARA's Faculty of applied Science and Faculty of Art and Design, with the cooperation of The Textile Institute, United Kingdom. The shoe designer said he produced his first pair of shoes when he was 11 years old, adding that his interest in the field developed after watching his father, also a shoe designer, at work. Choo said that encouraged by his father, and on the believe of bright prospects in shoe making, he continued to learn the art. "I first step foot in London in the 1980s. Most of the people I met then had difficulty pronouncing my name, Choo Yeang Keat. So, I chose Jimmy to make it easier for them and until today, I'm known as Jimmy Choo," he added. Choo's patron included the late Princess Diana of Wales. Meanwhile, seminar chairman, Professor Dr Jamil Salleh hoped that the seminar would further boost the country's textile industry. A total of 100 working papers would be presented at the two-day seminar, themed "Bridging Research, Innovation and Enterprise". -- BERNAMA
