Opening ceremony of the III International Festival of Arts held in Baku

The official opening ceremony of the III International Festival of Arts Maiden Tower took place on May 17 in Baku. It was held at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the organisation of the Office of State Historical-Architectural Reserve Icherisheher, the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Gallery Maiden Tower. The ceremony was held at the Small Caravan Sheds.
The festival has become a tradition and is being held for the third time with great success, director of the office of State Historical-Architectural Reserve Icherisheher Mikail Jabbarov said at the opening ceremony.
He said that at the festival of arts, the Maiden Tower plays an important role in the promotion and greater recognition of tits history and is one of the most ancient monuments of Azerbaijan and the iconic symbol of Baku.
Jabbarov said the artists who participated in last year's festival, will paint the models of gazelles this year as part of the IDEA campaign, headed by vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, to draw attention to the endangered 'Caucasian five'.
Jabbarov thanked the First Lady of Azerbaijan who is the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Alieva for her support in organising the festival.
Executive director of the Museum of Modern Art Jeyhun Agakishibeyli highlighted the care and attention to art and culture provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in recent years.
Director of the Art Gallery Maiden Tower Emin Mamedov, in turn, welcomed the artists and thanked them for their participation in the festival and wished them success.
People's Artist of Azerbaijan and Russia, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and Azerbaijan, academician Tahir Salahov sent greetings to the participants and expressed his gratitude to the organisers. Representatives of culture and art, public figures and media representatives participated at the event.
Artists participating in the festival will begin to create their work from today. They will exhibit them in the square at the front of the Maiden Tower.
