10,000 People Expected To Turn Up For National Artists Day Celebration

SINGAPORE, May 26 (Bernama) -- A total 10,000 artistes from numerous branches of the performing arts in the country are due to gather at Lake Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in conjunction with National Artistes Day, on Tuesday. Information, Communications and Culture Ministry's deputy secretary-general (Culture) Ab. Ghaffar A. Tambi said that for the first time martial arts exponents would be joining the gathering. "There is a difference in the National Artistes Day celebration on Tuesday as 3,000 martial artists will also be taking part," he said Friday. He said this to the Malaysian media after a ceremony for Malay artistes here which was also attended by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim and his wife Maznah Rais. Dr Rais was in Singapore to attend a meeting of the Asean Ministers of Culture and Arts which ended on Friday. -- BERNAMA
