MDeC To Host Inaugural Asian Animation Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Bernama) -- The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) in collaboration with ABC Australia, will host the inaugural Asian Animation Summit (AAS) from Dec 10-12 here. The summit is a move towards promoting the co-production and co-financing of animation programmes for children's television and film within the Asian region. It will also be supported by Screen Australia and Korea Creative Content Agency, MDeC said in a statement here Friday. It said a total of ten projects from each participating country would be pitched during the AAS to an international panel of advisors. The event provides a platform for animation producers to present two types of projects to potential co-producers, broadcasters and distributors - partially-financed projects seeking production finance, and projects in development seeking market feedback and financing interest. The first of its kind in Kuala Lumpur, the AAS would be attended by regional and international broadcasters and producers, including from markets such as Europe and North America. MDeC Chief Executive Officer Badlisham Ghazali said the summit would act as a channel for all creative players from the children's animation industry in all capacities. It is particularly valuable for new animators, as it provides them with opportunities for mentorship which will subsequently enhance their knowledge and skillset, he added. -- BERNAMA
