Malaysian Father Sees Light in Tussle for Children

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Come July 21, the fasting month for Nordi Adi, 57, will be more meaningful as he awaits to see his four children after they were separated from him by their stepmother living in Indonesia. Nordi said he married an Indonesian woman Kasini Kaslam, 25, in 2007 and brought his four children to live in his new wife's village in Lampung, Sumatra. "But my life turned into a nighmare when she started threatening me to transfer my Employees Provident Fund savings amounting to RM27,000 (US$8,450.15) to her or I will not be able to see my children," he told reporters here on Monday. Nordi returned to Malaysia in 2010 to withdraw his EPF savings and seek employment and since then he has not seen his four children: Siti Norzana, 12; Nurul Safiza Fitri, 11; Muhammad Nurhan, 9 and Nur Masyita Amiera, 8, for more than 1,000 days. However, Nordi's predicament appears to be over as Umno Youth's Community Complaint Bureau decided to come to his rescue. Bureau chief Muhd Khairun Aseh is confident of bringing Nordi's children back as they have helped handled three similar cases this year alone. -- BERNAMA
