HTAPS Certification Will Give Halal Logistics Businesses an Edge

GEORGE TOWN (Penang,Malaysia), June 28 (Bernama) -- The Halalan-Toyyiban Assurance Pipeline System (HTAPS) document needs to be referred to by all companies providing logistics services for halal products to ensure the safety and purity of a product right from the farm to the end user. A lecturer with the Centre of Food Science and Nutrition from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Associate Prof Mariam Abdul Latif said implementing the HTAPS will be an important move for companies wishing to provide products that are safe, clean and wholesome as it had three stages of certification and product monitoring covering the stages of product transportation, storage and retail. It has three certification standards essential in the Malaysian Standard (MS)2400 certification for management of food supply chain, namely MS2400-1:2010(P) which refers to a cargo management system for the transportation of goods or services, while the second MS2400-2:2010(P) refers to the need for stock management system and the third MS2400-3:2010(P) is for retail management. Mariam said this when presenting a paper on "Malaysia Standards On Halal Logistics" at a one-day seminar here Thursday on "Opportunities in Halal Logistics and ASEAN Free Trade Agreements". The seminar was jointly organised by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). With the HTAPS document, the integrity of a halal product can be assured as each of the supply chain process right from the farm to the end user is safe and undergoes an accepted halal certification standard. "If each of the logistics company follows all the measures documented in the HTAPS, it will make it easier for the company to receive its halal certification, she said. Mariam said halal certification played a key role in the domestic and international markets, giving confidence for the users while increasing productivity for a company and enhancing the country's image. --BERNAMA
