Guinea Interested in Implementing Malaysia's Felda Development Model

SUNGKAI (Perak,Malaysia), June 29 (Bernama) -- The Republic of Guinea is interested in implementing Malaysia's Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) model. Its President Alpha Conde expressed this after attending a briefing on Felda's operations at the 'Ladang Felda Besout 6' in Trolak near here on Thursday. Conde was so impressed with the briefing on the Felda development process that he asked whether the model was applicable and could be implemented in Guinea, and which Malaysian authorities were able to provide assistance for Guinea to implement it. Conde's comments in French were translated into English by a translator of the visiting delegation. Conde is on a four-day working visit to Malaysia. The briefing was delivered by Felda's training unit head, I.Rajindran. Also featured at the briefing was a 15-minute video screening of the progress of Felda which was formed in 1956. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom. In Kuala Lumpur, speaking to reporters after attending the pre-launch of the National Cooperatives Day 2012, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Malaysia was more than willing to assist the republic develop its cooperatives sector. He was commenting on Conde's remarks that the Angkasa model used in Malaysia for cooperatives would be good for the republic. -- BERNAMA
