Insurgents Kill Two Volunteer Corps Members

By Jamaluddin Muhammad BANGKOK, Thailand, June 30 (Bernama) -- Insurgents shot dead two members of a volunteer corps during an ambush in Saiburi, Pattani in southern Thai province on Friday. Saiburi police chief Col Aziz Umayee said the duo were travelling in a car when they were attacked by five men in a pick-up, who were armed with M-16 and AK-47 rifles, and .9mm pistols in the incident about 10am. "There were exchanges of fire and the victims were hit in the head and chest. They died at the scene," he said. He said the attackers also took away two .38 pistols from the deceased. Aziz believed the insurgents were also linked to the killing of three workers in Kapor, Pattani on June 26. -- BERNAMA
