"Malaysia's ICT Sector to Remain Bullish in the Second Half"
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's information and communications
technology (ICT) industry is projected to remain bullish for the second half of
this year, says Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).
Its Chief Executive Officer Badlisham Ghazali said the industry would see
growth in the second half year amid increased demand for ICT services as well as
consumer spending.
He also said the growth forecast for the sector of between eight and 10 per
cent for 2012 by the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) lent support
to the outlook.
The projection was also supported by the increase in the number of
applications submitted to MDeC for multimedia super corridor (MSC) status, which
showed that the industry is growing, he added.
“To date, we have received a total of 3,000 applications from multinational
companies for the MSC status.
“The figures keep increasing and we expect it to reach 3,200 by year-end,”
he told reporters on the sidelines of the Mobile App Developers Conference 2012,
here on Monday.
The two-day conference was jointly organised by IT training companies – Info
Trek Sdn Bhd and Instep Learning Asia Sdn Bhd, as well as value-added services
provider, FrenClub Mobile Sdn Bhd.
