Experts To Propose Blueprint On Asean Sports Development

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- A blueprint to enhance sports development in Asean is being discussed by some 30 experts attending the first Asean Expert Group Meeting on Sports (EGMS) held here since Monday. The five-day closed-door meeting chaired by Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary-General Mohid Mohamed, among others, aims to deepen and widen existing sports development activities and recommend future strategic partnership plans. Speaking to reporters after opening the meeting on Tuesday, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Senator Gan Ping Sieu said: "I hope the meeting will be able to map out and propose concrete proposals and ideas towards sports development in the region." The expert group meeting was decided at the first Senior Officers Meetings on Sports (SOMS) and Asean Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS) held in Indonesia last year. "The meeting is to assist SOMS and AMMS in developing and operate a work plan on sports and enhance sports development in Asean," Gan explained. Delegates will also evaluate the implementation of approved programmes and recommend measures for improvement. Sport experts attending the Kuala Lumpur meeting are from Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
