MAS Targets 20-30 Per Cent Digital Revenue Growth

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aims to achieve 20-30 per cent growth in digital revenue this year, driven by the introduction of the PayPal payment method for its ticket bookings. Malaysia Airlines Vice President, Marketing and Promotions Al-Ishsal Ishak (second from left) said last year, the national airline recorded 10-15 per cent growth in digital revenue. “We are confident of achieving the target as last year we saw an increase of 500 per cent in average daily bookings via MH Mobile. “This year we expect to maintain the momentum or surpass the number recorded last year, driven by the introduction of the PayPal payment method which is convenient and secure,” he told reporters at the launch of “Booking a MAS Flight using PayPal” here Thursday. Also present was PayPal Asia Pacific Director of Mobile Rahul Shinghal (second from right). Al-Ishsal said the company will also roll out seven currencies in the near future to meet customers’ demands, including the US dollar, euro and yen. Only Malaysian ringgit are currently accepted for MH Mobile application transactions. Malaysia Airlines’ MH Mobile applications and flymas.mobi mobile site now accept PayPal payments for all its domestic flights and from Malaysia to its international destinations. In conjunction with the launch, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich will be rewarding its loyalty programme members with 500 Enrich miles per transaction made using PayPal on mobile devices from Thursday until Oct 5, 2012. It is also offering promotional all-in fares from as low as US$47.43 (RM150) for Malaysian domestic travel and starting fares of US$107.45 (RM340) for Asean destinations. Customers may start booking from July 5 to 8 for travel from July 5 to Oct 31, 2012. Meanwhile, Al-Ishsal said the national carrier is revamping its website, www.malaysiaairlines.com, to include new features, multiple country languages and multiple currencies. “We are launching our new website's commercial platform in the next 45-60 days, and within the third or fourth quarter this year, we will have PayPal application in the desktop,” he added.
