Companies Must Discharge More CSR Programmes - Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not only about undertaking community projects, but it also stresses the need for companies to be reponsible, says Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, Peter Chin Fah Kui. "The key word is Net Zero state which is the highest form of sustainability where you put back what you have taken," he told reporters after officiating The National Conference on CSR and Social Business, here on Thursday. Sustainability is for the common good of all, both the present generation and also for posterity, Chin said. "Mandatory sustainability reporting is common in many developed nations and that makes me ponder whether we should have mandatory reporting in Malaysia too," he said. In his opening keynote address, Chin urged the organisers and participants of the conference to give recommendations and ideas to the government regarding mandatory sustainability reporting. "The world would be a better place for us and our children if we can move from a greed economy to a green economy," he added. -- BERNAMA
