Singapore Considers Increasing Vegetable Imports from Indonesia

SINGAPORE, July 17 (Bernama) -- Singapore is looking into ways to increase vegetable imports from Indonesia to give consumers more choice and better prices. National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in his blog Monday there was potential for Indonesia to increase its exports to Singapore. "There is an Indonesia-Singapore Agribusiness Working Group and we will see how we can work through it to implement practical initiatives," Khaw said. The group will among others study the cost structure of Indonesian agri-produce to identify bottlenecks in exporting from the country, mapping of production sites, logistics routes and facilities for key Indonesian provinces. At present, the republic's closest neighbour Malaysia remains its largest source of vegetables with 43 per cent of market share. -- BERNAMA
