SOME 850 SERVICEMEN BEGIN TRAINING FOR PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN LEBANON
Bandung, W Java, Oct. 16 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) began a training program for 850 servicemen who are to make up Indonesia's Garuda Contingent (Konga) XXIII-C in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at the Indonesian Army's training center here on Thursday.
The program was officially kicked off by the assistant for general planning to the TNI Commander, Rear Marshal Amirullah Amin.
The 850 military personnel are from the air force, army and navy. They will leave for Lebanon in mid November 2008 to replace Indonesia's Konga XXIII/B personnel who have been serving in Lebanon over the past one year.
The training will last three weeks and cover materials such as technical military, general military, the latest situation in Lebanon.
Earlier, on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 7 am local time, some 175 military personnel of the Garuda Contingent XX/F left Bandung for Congo, Central Africa, for a peace mission under the United Nations (UN).
TNI Commander Gen. Djoko Santoso sent off the Garuda XX-F contingent in a military ceremony at Halim Perdanakusuma air force base in Jakarta, Wednesday (Oct. 15).
"The Garuda contingent will help the UN peace mission in Congo and other civic duties like building bridges, water works and others," the commander said.
