PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO APPRECIATES GOLKAR'S COMMITMENT TO THE GOVT
Jakarta, Oct 17 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed appreciation to Golkar Party for its commitments to his and vice president Jusuf Kalla's administration in the past four years.
"As the head of state and government I thank Golkar for its support to his administration and participation in overcoming probems facing the country," he said at the opening of the party's fourth national leadership meeting, which closed on Sunday, at the Jakarta Conventional Center here on Friday.
The president said that for the past four years he and vice president Jusuf Kalla who is also the general chairman of the party had overcome problems of the the nation.
"Although there were sometimes dynamics in the relationship between members of Golkar and other parties in the administration I feel there was always room for wise solutions. I thanked and appreciated Pak (Mr) Jusuf Kalla as vice president as well as Golkar general chairman," he said.
On the other part of his speech, the President hoped in the political competition next year Golkar could give an example of good politics to make the country's democracy further develop in a positive direction.
"Stay away from politics that justifies violence that would damage our moral values and dignity as a nation," he said.
On his final statement the President wished the party good luck in the 2009 general elections.
"Now there has been a discourse on a coalition between one party and others for the 2009 general elections and afterward. With all humility I suggest that Golkar as a big party had a wisdom in determining the coalition," he said.
