OIC congratulates Turkey and Uganda for election to Security Council

Jeddah, October 19, SPA -- OIC Secretary General Prof .Ekmeleddin
Ihsanoglu, has conveyed on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic
Conference his heartfelt congratulations to the governments of Turkey
and Uganda for their well deserved election as Non Permanent Members
to the UN Security Council.

Prof Ihsanoglu commended the OIC Members for showing solidarity and
mutual support in conformity with the OIC resolutions in this regard.

The Secretary General expressed his confidence that as Members of
the UN Security Council, both countries in addition to Burkina Faso
and the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, who are Members of the OIC, will
actively and effectively promote international peace and security and
defend the Muslim causes at the international level.

He further stated that the membership of these countries in the UN
Security Council will reinforce the existing relations between the
OIC and the United Nations, according to a press release of the OIC.
