FIFTY-EIGHT UAE BUSINESSMEN TO ATTEND INDONESIA TRADE EXPO 2008
Jakarta, Oct 20 (ANTARA) - A group of 58 businessmen from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed a plan to attend the Indonesia Trade Expo on Oct 21-25.
The number represented a significant increase compared to 2007 when it was recorded at 30, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The businessmen are engaged among others in textile, garment, furniture, food, jewelry and motor vehicle spare part industries.
Among the businessmen are representatives from large-scale companies such as Emke Group, which controls hypermarket chains in the Gulf and Geap International, which is the biggest steel importer and producer in UAE.
Indonesian Ambassador to UAE Wahid Supriyadi is expected to accompany the 58-strong business delegation, the statement said.
Two-way trade between Indonesia and UAE reached US$1.5 billion in 2007 with the former enjoying a surplus of US$1.1 billion. Indonesia's key exports to UAE include textiles, textile products, jewelry, electronics and plywood.
Last year, Indonesia's export of motor vehicles and spare parts to UAE jumped 719 percent, electronics 139 percent and steel 105 percent compared to the previous year.
UAE, with a population of less than 5 million, is the world's fourth richest country with a per capita income of US$42,275.
