GENERAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION SIGNS INTEGRITY PACT
Jakarta, Oct 21 (ANTARA) - The general elections commission (KPU) members here on Tuesday signed an integrity pact for the procurement of logistics and services for the 2009 general elections.
The declaration was signed in the presense of state minister for administrative reform Taufiq Effendi.
In his speech KPU chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary said KPU wished to show its committment to readiness to carry out its tasks particularly the procurement of goods and services according to the law.
"The declaration of the integrity pact is part of efforts to realize good governance and clean governance," he said.
KPU has already prepared procedures for procuring goods and services for the 2009 general elections. The KPU chairman is committed not to asking a presidential regulation in lieu of law for the procurement of goods and services.
He said procurement would also be carried out in line with the procedures as mentioned in the presidential decision number 80 of 2003 and later changed into Government Regulation Number 95 of 2006.
The chairman of the executive board of the International Transparency International, Todung Mulya Lubis, meanwhile hoped that the signing of the pact was not a mere formality but must be followed up.
Minister Taufiq Effendi appreciated the signing of the pact which states that KPU will not conduct corruption, collusion and nepotism and will report to the authorities concerned if it finds indications of such in the process of goods and services procurement.
It also states that KPU will carry out its tasks of procuring goods and services cleanly, transparently and professionally and is ready to be given sanctions if it is found later violating the pact.
Several KPU members in the last general elections have been convicted of corruption and served time in jail.***
