FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL ISMAIL SALEH PASSES AWAY
Jakarta, Oct. 22 (ANTARA) - Former Attorney General Ismail Saleh (82) passed away at Cipto Mangunkusumo Public Hospital, here, on Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 10.30 pm local time.
Saleh, who was also a former managing director of ANTARA news agency, died of brain tumor which he had suffered since 2004.
As a retired lieutenant general of the army, he would be buried at Gunung Jati cemetery, in Cirebon, West Java, in a military funeral ceremony on Wednesday. His remains were laid in state at his residence on Musholla Street No. 1- Ampera Raya, Kemang Selatan, South Jakarta, prior to departure to Cirebon.
Ismael Saleh served as attorney general from 1981 to 1984, justice minister from 1984 to 1993, and ANTARA managing director from 1976 to 1979.
Ismail Saleh was born in Pati, Central Java, on November 7, 1926. He was survived by a wife, two daughters, one son and seven grandchildren.
His previous posts included cabinet presidium secretary (1967-1968), deputy cabinet secretary/assistant to the state secretary in charge of state administration (1972), cabinet secretary (1978), and chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (1979-1981).
