Thai government issues 8 strategies for AEC

BANGKOK, October 27 (TNA) - The Thai government has laid out eight strategies to cope with the Single Economic Community of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), scheduled to be formed by early 2015, only slightly more than two years away. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told the public during her weekly address on Saturday morning that the eight strategies include boosting Thailand's competitiveness, improving quality of life of Thai people, developing basic infrastructure and logistics, developing human resources, improving laws and regulations relating to trade and investment, building a better understanding for the the general public and government officials on AEC, promoting national security and boosting city connectivity with ASEAN members. Yingluck acknowledged that national-level committees have been set up, comprising Cabinet members, and four subcommittees have also been formed to implement all the eight strategies along with cooperation to be given by five private institutions.(TNA)
