The government has brushed aside claims there is a conflict among Cabinet members that has placed the position Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Idrawati in jeopardy, in relation with her handling of companies hammered by the recent stock market dive.

MANY HARBORS JUST FOR SMUGGLING

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has asked the Director General of Customs and Excise to close harbors which have so far become locations for smuggling activities and illegal imports. The measure is aimed at anticipating the increase of illegal imports amid the global crisis which has affected the decrease in demands from advanced countries.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will recheck documents of the Bank Indonesia Support (BLBI). The backgrounds of issuing release-and-discharge letters to debtors would be again investigated.

BI AGAIN BOOST BANKING LIQUIDITY

Bank Indonesia, the country's central bank, again boosted liquidity by deciding that banking just needs to meet 5 percent of the third parties' obligatory clearing account during a year. However, the measure is considered not enough to boost the banks' intermediary function.
