OPEN DISCUSSION ON POLITICAL ACTIVITIES FINANCING RUNS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ An open discussion titled “Financing of political activities” ran on Wednesday in the Government House. The discussion was co-organized by the Presidential Office, the parliamentary Standing committee on state structure and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA). It weas chaired by Ch.Sosormaa, an advisor to the President. A head of the Standing committee A.Bakei made the opening remarks followed by Ch.Sosormaa who presented concepts of the law on financing of political activities. She also said the IDEA's advisor B.Tora drew up a political parties financing and activities recommendation at request of the President, and Presidential Office set up a working group who will make a related bill in order to realize this recommendation. Then several officals took the floor to express their understanding of political parties and their financing. Dr. E.Gerelt-Od talked about financing of politics and developmental tendency of political parties; advisor to the IDEA Tora gave a report themed "International experience in political fund"; a programme officer of the IDEA in political parties team Sam van der Staak--a report "Basic parts of financing of political parties"; and R.Burmaa MP--a report "Possible solutions to realization of political fund financing". The political parties' representatives said the financial matter of the parties must be solved urgently and that establishing the fund by directly copying foreign experience is not a good idea. They said this issue must be thoroughly tacked at several discussions. B.Khuder
