DISCUSSION RUNS ON RESOLUTION INITIATED BY MONGOLIA

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador-at-Large S.Badral to the Community of Democracies (CoD) has chaired the first discussion on a draft resolution on Education for Democracy. The discussion was held in frames of the 2nd consultative meeting of the resolution's co-initiators which took place November 6 in New York, USA. Mongolia has initiated this resolution in a scope of realizing the key objectives of the CoD, and is working on having the 67th session of the UN General Assembly adopted it. In conjunction with the resolution, representatives of the European Union (EU), India, Egypt, Israel, Venezuela, Syria, USA and Canada delivered speeches, backing basic points of the resolution and forwarding 30 proposals. For the time being, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania and India have joined the resolution as co-authors, some countries have expressed a willingness to enter the resolution. If the resolution is adopted by the UNGA, the matter on education for democracy will come to center of the international community and it will be discussed at the GA's session every two years.
