Mehmansparast: Syria To send 18 Iranian Prisoners To Iran To Serve Remaining Prison Terms

Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Monday that the first group of Iranian nationals imprisoned in Syria will be transferred to Iran to serve the remaining prison terms. Speaking to IRNA, Mehmanparast said the prisoners will be transferred based on an agreement reached with Syrian officials. Considering conditions prevailing in Syria, he added, an agreement has been reached with Syrian officials to transfer the Iranian nationals, who are now in Syrian jails for different reasons, to Iranian prisons. In the first phase, he added, 18 Iranian prisoners will be transferred, he added. Earlier, an informed source in Iran's consulate office in Damascus told IRNA that upon an agreement with and consent of the Syrian officials, 17 Iranian prisoners in Syria will be gradually transferred to Iran soon to serve their remaining prison terms in Iran./end
