PM: DEMOCRATS WIN IN TWO THIRDS OF AIMAGS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Democratic party (DP) has won in two-thirds of aimags in the local elections, said the party's chairman and PM N.Alatankhuyag on Thursday morning. The preliminary results have not been concluded "but some profound evidence let us announce like that," he said. In 2008's local elections the party won mandates in four aimags and in one city's district only, but now "we got seats in two thirds of the provinces and in all city districts excluding Bagakhangai," he went on. This is the first ever victory for the DP, for the first time the Mongolians have managed to make the DP the majority by voting for them, he said and thanked the nation for giving the party a trust and responsibility. "Now the time has come for us to start an active, prompt and responsible work," he stressed. The party considers, he went on, that the people are supporting the reforms, are beginning to feel the renovation, are able to judge works done in some aimags in the last four years, "and is why they have chosen the Democratic party." Seeing how the UB Mayor E.Bat-Uul (DP member) and his team managed to change the city in a short time, and how the democrats, elected as majority in 2008 in Sukhbaatar aimag, managed to make this province and its center much better, the people began hoping that if the DP wins, every province will improve as Sukhbaatar did, Mr Altankhuyag said. A fact that the democrats have become a majority in Khovd, Uvs, Tov and Bulgan aimags--where the slightest democratic breathe would not be felt ever--tells that "we are given a great trust, and now we must confirm that we deserve it," he said.
