Majority Factions Agree To Give More Time For Case Watchdog
Jakarta, Dec 5 (ANTARA) - The majority factions of the House of Representatives agree to give more time for Bank Century case watchdog to wrap up legal process of the high profile bank scandal.
"In an internal meeting of the Bank Century Supervision Team attended by seven factions, six factions were in favor of the proposal to give more time for the team with only one the ruling Democratic Party against," a team member Hendarawan Supratikno said.
Two other factions Amanat Nasional (PAN) and Hanura were not present at the closed door meeting, Hendarawan Supratikno said here on Wednesday.
However, the two factions had earlier said they wanted to give more time for the team until the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) completed investigation of the case .
The decision would be brought to a plenary session for the final approval.
KPK already named two suspects among senior government officials in the case which began with the controversial bail out of the ailing bank in 2008.
Vice President Boediono who was the central bank governor when the bail-out took place was implicated in the alleged abuse of power.
Hendrawan said originally the team was given time until Dec 14 this year , while KPK apparently needs more time as expected.
Meanwhile, the name of Bank Century has been changed with Bank Mutiara and it is to be sold in 2013, therefore, closer control is needed, he said.
Hendrawan said he is optimistic the House plenary session would approved the extension of time for the watchdog.
