Bird Flue Attacks And Kills Over 1,100 Ducks In Pekalongan

Pekalongan, C Java, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - Virus of Avian Influenza attacked and killed more than 1,100 ducks in the city of Pekalongan, Central Java, over the past month, the animal husbandry office said. The ducks died suddenly and based on a test at the Veterinary Research Center in Yogyakarta, the cause of the death was avian influenza (AI), Head of the Pekalongan animal husbandry office Ujang Sutarno said here on Tuesday. The AI cases were found in a number of areas in the city, he added. Ujang said it was the first time that over a thousand ducks died all of a sudden in the city of Pekalongan. He said the animal husbandry office has called on poultry farmers to take precaution by spraying disinfectants and have their animals vaccinated . The city administration already formed a team in charge pf preventing the spread of the virus , he said. "The team will respond to any call reporting cases of AI from the people in the city," he added.
