Toyota Targets Two Pct Sales Growth In 2013
Jakarta, Dec 20 (ANTARA) - PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) is projected to see a two percent increase in market growth in 2013, compared with its market share in the current year, which reached 36 percent.
The projection was based on the contribution of the increased sales of the "multi-purpose vehicle" (MPV), the "sport utility vehicle" (SUV), and the "hatchback."
"Toyota`s market share in the next year is expected to increase to 38 percent compared with its 2012 realization. Toyota Astra Motor expects its product sales will increase if the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) is launched in 2013," said the company`s General Manager of Corporate Planning and Public Relations Widyawati Soedigdo here on Thursday.
As of last month (November 2012), Toyota sales had reached 371,000 units, she added.
"Toyota sales in November 2012 reached 371,000 units, which were mostly sales of multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and the hatchback," she said.
The national car market is still growing since car ownership remains low, where currently only 30 people out of 1,000 own a car in Indonesia.
"A country can be said to have enter the motorization stage if the car ownership ratio is 50 cars per 1,000 people. However, Indonesia has the potential to grow, so a lot of investors are keen to invest in it," she remarked.
Toyota Astra along with PT Astra Daihatsu Motor has introduced LCGC products: Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla.
The low-cost car products, which will be produced at the Astra Daihatsu plant, are said to have high levels of domestic materials, reaching up to 84 percent.
