U.S. embassy to help Kazakhstan to establish training center for customs officials

Kazakhstan, Astana, Dec. 29 / Trend D. Mukhtarov /
The program for export control and border security of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan and the Customs Control Committee of the Kazakh Finance Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding in terms of rendering technical assistance in the training center construction in Kazakhstan, the embassy said on Friday.
"Over the next few years, the program will assist the Customs Control Committee with the technical equipment and the modernization of infrastructure of the training ground for practical training on combating weapons of mass destruction," a statement said.
This training ground is designed for practical courses to train customs officers with tactics of revealing and preventing the materials used for the production of weapons of mass destruction in the rail, road border crossings and airports.
The U.S. Embassy's program has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1999 and has allocated about $ 27 million for infrastructure development, technical equipment and staff training to ensure Kazakhstan's border security.
