AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSSES EXTRADITION OF BLBI FUGITIVE WITH AGO
Jakarta, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer has met with Attorney General Hendarman Supandji to discuss the Australian assistance to extradite Andrian Kiki Iriawan, a fugitive in Bank Indonesia's illegal liquidity credit scam (BLBI), from Australia.
"The meeting between the attorney general and the Australian ambassador has no relations with the plan to execute Bali bombing death-row convicts," AGO Spokesman Jasman Pandjaitan said on Monday.
Rumors had it that the ambassador had met the attorney general in the wake of the execution of Amrozi et al for their role in 2002 Bali bombing which killed 202 people, including 88 Australian nationals.
Pandjaitan said that the meeting discussed the Australian assistance to extradite Iriawan who was wanted by Indonesian authorities for his involvement in the BLBI case which caused a loss of Rp1.5 trillion to the state.
Andrian Kiki Iriawan (director of Bank Surya) and Bambang Sutrisno (deputy director of Bank Surya) were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Central Jakarta District Court in 2002. The two convicts were tried in absentia.
The two were found guilty of committing corruption crimes in a BLBI fraud case which involved a sum of Rp1.5 trillion.
Andirian Kiki Iriawan fled to Australia while Bambang Sutrisno escaped to Singapore.
