Syria makes enemies flee the country: Iranian commander

TEHRAN,Jan.8(MNA) - The deputy chief of the general staff of Iran’s armed forces has said that Syria will finally make enemies flee the country. Syria along with Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement and Palestinians form the resistance front against Israel. The Islamic Republic of Iran would never allow the resistance front to be weakened, Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said. “The countries subservient to the United States must be aware that they cannot compel the resistance to retreat through terrorism and military actions,” Jazayeri stated. He went on to say that the ultimate goal of the enmity towards Syria, Hezbollah and Palestinians is to lift the siege on Israel. The Iranian commander warned the West that it would not be “safe” from damages that the “well equipped and mindless terrorists” would cause. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad outlined a new peace initiative on Sunday that includes a national reconciliation conference, and the formation of a wide representative government which would then oversee new elections, a new constitution and general amnesty. Assad stated that the initiative can only take roots after regional and Western countries stop funding “militant extremists” fighting to overthrow the government.
