Thousands Of Workers Conduct Rally In Jakarta On Wednesday

Jakarta, Jan 14 (ANTARA) - About 5,000 to 10,000 labor workers are planning to conduct a rally in Jakarta on Wednesday (Jan 16) to protest against moratorium of local minimum wage`s raise, increase of electricity tariff and criminalization of labors. President of Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal here on Monday said the upcoming rally will be participated in by labors from Federation of Metal Workers Association (FSPMI) and the Indonesian Labor Movement Council (MPBI). The rally will be held in front of Jakarta`s Metropolitan Police Office then proceed to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources` office. The Wednesday rally will end in front of the Ministry of manpower and Transmigration. He said a bigger rally will be held next February 6 with more than 50,000 participants from various labor organizations in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi area. The rally will be held in front of Presidential Palace and the House of Representatives. Said added thousands labor in big cities in Indonesia namely in Medan (North Sumatra), Batam (Riau island), Semarang (Central Java), Surabaya (East Java), Bandung (West Java), Banten, Aceh, Gorontalo and Makassar (South Sulawesi) will also conduct similar rallies on February 6.
