Georgia welcomes PACE resolution

Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 24/ Trend N.Kirtskhalia / The Foreign Ministry of Georgia has welcomed the detailed approach of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly's (PACE) resolution towards humanitarian problems. As stated in the Foreign Ministry report, Georgia hopes that close cooperation with the Council of Europe and other international organisations will empower achievement of real progress in problems mentioned in this document. The document also notes that the report of the PACE Migration Committee rapporteur Tina Aketoft on 'Humanitarian consequences of the Russian-Georgian war' was reviewed at a PACE meeting in Strasbourg. The report was developed on results of visits to Georgia in September and December 2012. Following the consideration of the report, PACE adopted a resolution 'Georgia and Russia: the humanitarian situation in the conflict-and war-affected areas Doc 13083 '. 'This PACE resolution is different because it focuses on the problems that interfere with the observance of human rights in the occupied regions. In addition, the Foreign Ministry report notes that the adopted document once more calls the Russian side to unconditional implementation of the six articles of the ceasefire agreement dated August 12, 2008', Georgian Foreign Ministry report said. Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia in Georgia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia late in August. Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow in response and has announced the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be occupied territories. Do you have any feedback?
