Iran launches 2000 ton dry dock in Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.12 / Trend F.Mehdi/ Iran has commissioned a dry dock with a capacity of 2000 tons, in the Caspian Sea, to maintain and repair various types of vessels and maritime structures, ILNA reported. The dry dock has been fully designed and manufactured by Iranian engineers at the ministry of defence. The dry dock is 105.5 metres long, 22 metres wide and 11 metres high and is the first of its kind in the Caspian Sea, ILNA quoted Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi as saying. A dry dock is a narrow basin or vessel that can be flooded to allow a load to be floated inside then drained to allow that load to come to rest on a dry platform. Dry docks are used for the construction, maintenance and repair of ships, boats, and other water craft. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
