BANK MANDIRI RECORDS Rp3.956 TRILLION NET PROFIT

Jakarta, Oct. 31 (ANTARA) - PT.Bank Mandiri booked a net profit of Rp3.956 trillion in the third quarter of 2008, up 24.4 percent from Rp3.180 trillion in the same period last year, a bank executive said.

"The profit surge was especially due to an increase by 28.9 percent in operational profit from Rp4.586 trillion in September 2007 to Rp5.550 trillion in September 2008," Agus Martayasa, the bank's vice president director, said here on Thursday.
The profit also rose thanks to improvements in the bank's net interest margin, fee-based income, and productive assets' quality.
The amount of year-on-year credits grew by 33.7 percent, from Rp121.7 trillion to Rp162.8 trillion, with the gross NPL (non-performing loans) ratio of 4.44 percent and net NPL ratio of 0.56 percent.
In line with the credit growth, the total value of the bank's assets also rose by Rp44.9 trillion from Rp273.8 trillion in September 2007 to Rp318.7 trillion in September 2008.
Meanwhile, the collection of inexpensive funds, giro and savings reached Rp143.8 trillion, up 17.5 percent from Rp122.3 trillion last year.
Net income from interest up to September reached Rp11.009 trillion, up 13.7 percent from Rp9.684 trillion in the same period last year while fee-based income was recorded at Rp3.123 trillion, an increase of 20.5 percent from Rp2.592 trillion a year earlier.
