DEVELOPMENT OF CIHERANG SUPERIOR RICE SUCCESSFUL IN S KALIMANTAN

Banjarmasin, Indonesia, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - The Ciherang Variety, a superior rice has been successfully developed in Banjar regent, South Kalimantan province, and pleased local farmers.

Substantively, Ciherang is a crossed variety of IR 64 and other variety, Ciherang also has some IR64 characteristics, including good quality.

Ciherang Variety slowly but surely spreads in Handil Alabio village, Gambut subdistrict.

At the moment, harvest can only be carried out twice a year, with 15-20 rice piles per lump in an average of 3.7 tons per hectare.

HG Khairul Saleh, Banjar regent said that he would secure seed's availability and quality sufficiency. In an effort to support more superior seeds, the Banjar regent would implement a policy for providing the seeds by subsidiaries.
