RI, SPAIN TRADE REACHES 2.1 BILLION EUROS PER ANNUM

Denpasar, Indonesia, Oct 31 (ANTARA) - Two-way trade between Indonesia and Spain reaches more than 2.1 billion euros per annum, suggesting that the two nations have close trade ties, an envoy said.

"The figure shows that the two countries have good trade relations," Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Slamet Santoso Mustafa said after accompanying a number of Spanish businessmen at a meeting with Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika here on Friday.

In view of the close trade ties, the Indonesian embassy in Madrid took the initiative to invite 60 Spanish businessmen to visit Indonesia, Slamet said.

Earlier, the Spanish businessmen grouped in the European General Investment Company (EGIC) visited the Trade Expo Indonesia at the Jakarta fair ground on October 21-26.

The Spanish businessmen's visit to Bali was aimed at looking into the possibility of investment in the resort island, he said.

"They are interested in investing in Bali as a world-renowned tourist destination and an important part of Indonesia," he said.

Meanwhile, EGIC Director Fernando Alonso Varea said his side was interested in enhancing cooperation with Bali in all fields.

Spain had established close cooperation with Bali, he said. "We hope the cooperation can be further enhanced."
Governor Pastika warmly welcomed the Spanish businessman's wish to invest in various sectors on the island. "We hope the investments will have a positive impact on the business field and other sectors in Bali."
