Turkmenistan to build reservoirs

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, April 2 / Trend H. Hasanov / The Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan plans to build reservoirs on the River Gozganchay in the Kaahka etrap (district) of the Akhal velayat (region) and in Kunya Urgench etrap of the Dashoguz region, according to the decision of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Water management equipment will be supplied by the Türkmen Enjam business entity. The equipment is also designed for the development of new irrigated land with a total area of 25,000 hectares in the Altyn Asyr district of the Akhal province. A transaction has been made to implement a programme of social and economic development for 2012-2016, as well as to improve the cultural and economic efficiency of agriculture. Turkmenistan grows cotton, corn, rice and sugar beet. In recent years, the country has been increasing capacities for the production of fertilisers. Turkmenistan is also actively purchasing agricultural machinery from the U.S. and Belarus in the framework of fundamental reform in the agricultural sector of the country and under the development of virgin lands.
