IHCAVO ISSUES JAKARTA DECLARATION TO SAVE PALESTINE'S ECONOMY
Jakarta, Nov 2 (ANTARA) - The International Humanitarian Conference on Assistance for Victims of Occupation in Palestine (IHCAVO) has concluded a three-day meeting on Sunday at the Jakarta Convention Centre issuing a 14-point Jakarta Declaration, chief organizer Soeripto said here Sunday.
"The conference issued a 14-point statement on Palestine's condition under zionist rule. The points cover healthcare and socio-economic aspects," he said adding that a joint secretariat would be established in Jakarta to optimize the implementation of the declaration.
The Commission III of the House of Representatives also stated that the secretariat with a general chairman and secretary general based in Indonesia.
The recommendations also include the setting up of a Palestinian Entrepreneurs Forum to help improve Palestine's economy.
A preacher of the Al Aqsha mosque, Syeikh Dr Ikrimah Sabri, also agreed with the idea to strengthen Palestine's economy. The preacher expected that all moslem countries would help reach the goal.
Asked about Indonesia's concrete role in building Palestine's economy, Soeripto said Indonesia was willing to help develop Palestine's agriculture.
"Since Indonesia is now able to take care of its own rice needs, we are planning to send our agricultural experts there to help them develop their agriculture and eventually their economy," he said.
The IHCAVO conference held at the Jakarta Convention Center from October 31 to November 2, 2008, was attended by 500 Non Governmental Organization delegates from 25 countries around the world.
