TERRORISM STILL PREVAILS EVEN AFTER BALI BOMBERS' EXECUTION, OFFICIAL

Jakarta, Nov 2 (ANTARA) - Chief of the anti-terror squad of the Coordinating Ministry for Security and Political Affairs, Ansyaad Mbai, said here Sunday that terrorism would still prevail in Indonesia after the execution of the Bali Trio Bombers.

"An execution is one way to warn terrorists. However, terrorism is a matter opportunity like other crimes. Therefore, it remains a threat with or without Amrozi et al," Ansyaad said adding that recent terrorist threats after three years of vacuum has proven that terrorists still existed.

Ansyaad pointed to the discovery of high explosives material in Plumpang, one of Pertamina's Depots in North Jakarta.

Ansyaad also said that terrorists in Indonesia could grow rapidly by their network expansion because some of them have contacts with global terrorist organizations such as the Jamaah Islamiyah and Tandzim Al-Qaidah.

The action was funded and supported by global terrorist network. "This is apparent from their ability in using military equipment, bomb manufacturing, setting targets, evading the police and military, and fighting like their partners in Poso," he said.

According to Ansyaad, the condition was worsened by local terrorist organizations. He said global terrorist organizations which attacked Egypt's tourist areas since 2000 were closely linked to previous local groups such as the Jamaah Takfir wal Hijrah, Tandzim Jihad, and Jamaah Islamiyah, which operated in Egypt in the 1970s to 1980s.

"Basically, those who commit terror in 2000 get legality from previous generations with regard to doctrines of violation and revenge," he said.

"Therefore, the basis of terrorism is revenge. It will still exists even following the execution of the Bali bombers," said Ansyaad.
