US, AUSTRALIAN EMBASSIES GET BOMB THREATS

Jakarta, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - The United States and Australian embassies in Jakarta received bomb threats on Tuesday in connection with the imminent execution of Bali-I bombers Amrozi, Ali Ghufrom alias Mukhlas, and Imam Samudra, police said.

Central Jakarta police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Heri Wibowo said the bomb threats were sent by anonymous persons through cellular text messages (SMS) on Tuesday morning.
The sender of the messages said the two embassies would be blown up if Amrozi et al were executed.
"The two embassies really received bomb threats and therefore the Gambir sector police and Central Jakarta police will continue to tighten security at the two sensitive locations," Heri Wibowo said.
According to Wibowo, the persons who sent the bomb threat said they had planted TNT bombs at the two embassies and would detonate them if Amrozi et al were executed.
On September 9, 2004, a one-ton car bomb, which was packed into a small Daihatsu delivery van, exploded outside the Australian embassy in the Kuningan district, South Jakarta, killing 9 people including the car driver , and wounding over 150 others.
Numerous office buildings surrounding the embassy were also damaged by the blast, which shattered windows in buildings 500 meters (500 yd) away, injuring many workers inside, mostly by broken glass.
But no Australian working at the embassy was hurt.
Among the victims killed were embassy security guard Anton Sujarwo, 23, and four Indonesian policemen on duty at the embassy. The rest were civilians, including the embassy gardener, Suryadi, 34, two embassy workers, a visa applicant, and a pedestrian.
