WIT PROVIDES COURSES FOR TRANSVESTITES AND SINGLE MOTHERS
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Workers Institute of Technology (WIT)
is helping single mothers facing financial difficulties to generate income and
also tranvestites to earn a decent living by providing courses in tailoring and
bridal make-up for these two groups of people.
WIT chairman Zainal Rampak said these courses were to supplement
government's efforts in assisting these groups so that they could contribute
their skills to the community.
"The four-month intensive course which started more than a year ago is
heavily subsidised using hands-on approach, whereby participants are required to
attend the course full time," he told Bernama.
He said WIT would also introduce technical courses for the disabled and
Orang Asli (indigenous people) as part of four technical courses presently
taught at the institute.
Zainal said since its inception in 1977 by the Transport Workers Union,
the institute had produced 31,000 skilled workers in various technical
fields.
Since then, he said, many of WIT graduates had either become entrepreneurs
running their own workshops or leaders in their profession.
"The institute's diploma courses are recognised by local and foreign
institutions of higher learning and school-leavers, especially from poor
families, are welcome to take up courses at the institute," Zainal added.
